Our Staff
Orion UMC is a member of the Henry Country Tree of Life Parish along with Cambridge United Methodist Church and Alpha United Methodist Church. Being a combined parish, we have three ministers who rotate between the three churches.
Lead Pastor - Lisa Unger
God began calling Pastor Lisa into ministry around 1999 when she took her first Basic Lay Speaking course and shortly after delivered her first message to her home church at the time. She has been a United Methodist her whole life and grew up in the Bishop Hill United Methodist Church.
She and her husband, Chuck, have been married for 38 ½ years and live in Cambridge.They have two sons, three grandsons, and three bonus grandsons.
Associate Pastor – Cody Battefeld
Pastor Cody majored in Pastoral Ministry at Greenville College in Greenville, IL and studied coaching and philosophy. After college, he found ways to minister to people and build relationships while working different jobs. After sensing God’s calling to seminary, he began his studies at Northern Seminary in Lisle, IL and completed his seminary work in 2020.
In his free time, he enjoys fishing, hunting, reading, and learning new hobbies. Pastor Cody lives in Alpha.
Certified Lay Minister – Jozett McCoy
Jozett grew up in Cambridge, and her childhood was the start of her faith journey. As she grew older her faith deepened, and she was called to preach once a month in Viola and here in Orion on Thursday nights. In addition to her duties as a CLM, she teaches full-time at Moline High School as an English Special Education Teacher.
She and her husband, Mike, have three children and one granddaughter.
